Jackpot slots offer something regular slots cannot: the chance to turn a normal stake into a life-changing sum. Some jackpots grow with every spin across hundreds of casinos, others are guaranteed to drop before a set time each day. In this guide we explain the main types of jackpot slots, how the jackpots are won, what you give up in return and where you can play them at UK-licensed casinos.

A jackpot slot is a slot game with one or more prizes on top of the normal paytable. The jackpot is not paid from a fixed symbol combination, but from a separate prize pool or a special bonus feature. Part of every stake goes into that pool, which is why jackpots can grow far beyond the maximum win of a regular slot.
There are four main types of jackpot slots at UK casinos:
| Type | How it works | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Network progressive | A pool shared across many casinos, growing with every bet | Mega Moolah, Mega Fortune, WowPot |
| Local or in-house progressive | A pool that only grows with bets at one casino or one operator | Exclusive casino jackpots |
| Must-drop (daily) jackpots | Jackpots that must be won before a set time or amount | Red Tiger Daily Drop, Dream Drop |
| Fixed jackpots | A fixed top prize that does not grow | Many classic and fruit machine slots |
Network progressive jackpots
Network progressives are the jackpots behind the biggest headlines. Every spin on the game at every casino that offers it adds a small amount to the pool, so the top prize can grow to millions of pounds. When the jackpot is won, it resets to a starting amount, the so-called seed, and starts growing again.
Mega Moolah
Mega Moolah from Games Global is the most famous progressive slot. It has four jackpot levels: Mini, Minor, Major and Mega. All four are won through a random jackpot wheel that can trigger on any spin. The higher your stake, the more likely the wheel is to appear, but every stake has a chance at the Mega jackpot.
Mega Fortune
Mega Fortune from NetEnt uses a luxury theme with yachts, champagne and diamond rings. The jackpots are won in a bonus wheel with three levels, Rapid, Major and Mega. Mega Fortune is one of the classic NetEnt jackpots and is still available at many UK casinos.
Age of the Gods
Playtech’s Age of the Gods series links several Greek mythology slots to one jackpot network with four levels: Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power. Because the same jackpots are shared across the whole series, you can pick the game you like best and still play for the same prizes.
Jackpot King
Jackpot King is a jackpot network from Blueprint Gaming and one of the most popular jackpot systems in the UK. It is added to many Blueprint slots, including well-known fishing, fruit machine and TV-themed games. When enough Jackpot King symbols land, you enter the Jackpot King bonus, where you can win the progressive jackpot or smaller cash prizes. The base game of each slot stays the same, so you get a normal slot with an extra jackpot layer on top.
Daily and must-drop jackpots
Must-drop jackpots work differently. Instead of growing until a lucky player hits them, they are guaranteed to be won before a set time or before they reach a set amount.
- Red Tiger Daily Drop: usually an hourly jackpot, a daily jackpot that must drop before a set time each day, and a larger Epic jackpot.
- Dream Drop (Relax Gaming): a network jackpot with five levels, from Mini to Mega, attached to a range of slots.
The prizes are smaller than the biggest network progressives, but they are won much more often. That makes daily jackpots popular with players who want a realistic chance at an extra prize.
Fixed jackpots in popular slots
Not every jackpot is progressive. Some popular slots include fixed jackpots that pay a set multiple of your stake. In Wolf Gold, for example, the Money Respin can award fixed Mini, Major and Mega jackpots, with the Mega for filling all positions with moon symbols. Fixed jackpots are smaller than network progressives, but the slot itself usually keeps a more standard RTP.
How do you win a jackpot?
Jackpots are won in one of three ways, depending on the game:
- Random trigger: the jackpot feature can start on any spin, regardless of the symbols. This is how Mega Moolah and many daily jackpots work.
- Bonus game: special symbols unlock a jackpot bonus, such as a wheel or a pick-and-win game.
- Symbol combination: the classic method, where a specific combination pays the top prize. This is mostly used for fixed jackpots.
In many progressive slots, a higher stake increases your chance of triggering the jackpot feature. Always check the game rules, because they explain exactly how your stake affects your chances.
RTP and volatility of jackpot slots
Jackpot slots usually have a lower base RTP than regular slots. Part of each stake goes into the jackpot pool, so less is paid back through normal wins. For a regular slot, an RTP of around 96% is common. Many progressive jackpot slots return noticeably less in the base game, while the jackpot itself makes up the difference for the rare player who wins it.
The volatility is also high. You may play for a long time with modest wins, while the real value of the game sits in a prize that very few players will ever hit. That is not a problem as long as you know what you are choosing: jackpot slots are about the dream of a big win, not about steady returns. If you prefer more frequent wins, our online slots page lists games with a more balanced profile.
Jackpot slots in the UK: rules to know
UK-licensed casinos must follow the rules of the UK Gambling Commission, and these apply to jackpot slots too:
- Stake limits: the maximum stake on online slots is £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24.
- No autoplay or turbo: every spin must be started manually and last at least 2.5 seconds.
- Bonus rules: since 19 January 2026, wagering requirements on bonuses are capped at 10x.
- Jackpot wins: large wins may require extra verification before payout. This is normal and helps protect both you and the casino.
Gambling winnings, including jackpots, are not taxed for players in the UK.
Tips for playing jackpot slots
- Set a budget first: jackpots are rare, so decide in advance how much you want to spend.
- Read the jackpot rules: check whether all stakes qualify and how the jackpot is triggered.
- Mix jackpots and regular slots: daily jackpots or a lower volatility slot can balance your session.
- Look at the current jackpot size: it does not change your odds, but it shows what you are playing for.
- Use bonuses carefully: some bonuses exclude jackpot slots. Compare the terms on our welcome bonus page.
