Instant win games are short, simple casino games where the outcome is decided straight away. There is no long bonus round and usually no paytable with dozens of symbols. You choose your stake, sometimes a risk level, and the game shows the result within a few seconds.
Many instant win games come from smaller, specialist studios and have a minimalist design. Their appeal lies in speed and control: in several games you decide yourself when to stop and take your winnings.
| Game | How it works | Your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Plinko | A ball drops through rows of pegs into a multiplier slot | Number of rows and risk level |
| Mines | Reveal tiles on a grid without hitting a mine | Number of mines and when to cash out |
| Crash games | A multiplier rises until it crashes | When to cash out |
| Keno | Pick numbers and see how many are drawn | How many numbers to pick |
| Scratchcards | Scratch panels to reveal a prize | Ticket price |
| Dice and Hi-Lo | Predict a roll or the next card | Target number or higher/lower |
Plinko
Plinko is inspired by the famous TV game show board. A ball drops from the top of a pyramid of pegs and bounces left and right until it lands in one of the slots at the bottom. Each slot has a multiplier: the slots in the middle pay small amounts or less than your stake, while the slots on the edges pay much more.
In most online versions you can choose:
- The number of rows: more rows mean more bounces and more extreme multipliers on the edges.
- The risk level: low risk gives a narrower range of results, high risk gives lower payouts in the middle and much higher multipliers on the edges.
Because the ball is far more likely to land near the middle, the big edge multipliers are rare. Plinko is a pure game of chance, but the risk settings let you decide how volatile each drop is.
Mines
Mines is based on the classic computer game Minesweeper. You play on a grid, usually 5 x 5, where a number of mines are hidden. Before you start, you choose how many mines there are. Every safe tile you reveal increases your multiplier. Hit a mine and you lose your stake for that round.
The key decision is when to cash out. With few mines, each tile adds only a little to the multiplier, but the risk per click is low. With many mines, the multiplier rises quickly, but so does the chance of hitting a mine. Mines is popular because it feels interactive, even though every tile is decided at random.
Crash games
Crash games, with Aviator as the best-known example, work with a multiplier that starts at 1x and keeps rising. At a random moment, the game crashes. If you cash out before the crash, you win your stake times the multiplier at that moment. If you wait too long, you lose your stake.
Crash games are often played in rounds with many players at the same time, so you can see when others cash out. Many versions let you place two bets per round, for example one with an early cash out and one that you let run for longer. The excitement comes from the tension between taking a small win now or waiting for a bigger multiplier.
Features can differ between markets, so the version at a UK casino may not offer every option you see elsewhere.
Keno
Keno is one of the oldest lottery-style casino games. You pick a set of numbers, usually from 1 to 80, and the game draws 20 numbers. The more of your numbers are drawn, the higher your prize. Picking more numbers increases the top prize, but you also need more matches to win. Online keno rounds are quick, which makes it a good fit for the instant win section.
Scratchcards
Online scratchcards work like the paper version: you buy a card, scratch the panels and see straight away whether you have won. Many online scratchcards have themes based on popular slots or TV shows. Read our full guide to online scratchcards for more.
RTP and risk in instant win games
The RTP of instant win games varies a lot. Some crash and mine games have relatively high RTPs, often around 97%, while scratchcards and some keno games return less. Always check the game information for the exact figure, because casinos can offer different versions.
More important than the RTP is the volatility you choose. In Plinko and Mines you set the risk yourself. In crash games your cash out strategy decides how risky each round is. Low risk settings give frequent small wins, high risk settings give rare but large wins. Neither changes the house edge: over time, the game keeps its built-in margin.
Instant win games versus slots
Instant win games and slots are both games of chance, but they feel very different. Slots offer themes, features and bonus rounds, while instant win games focus on speed and simple decisions. Playing instant win games in the UK
Instant win games at UK casinos are licensed and tested like all other casino games. You must be 18 or over, the casino must verify your identity and credit cards cannot be used. Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion through GamStop are always available. Since January 2026, bonus wagering is capped at 10x, but many bonuses cannot be used on instant win games, so always check the terms.
Tips for playing instant win games
- Set a session budget: rounds last seconds, so your stake can add up quickly.
- Choose your risk level consciously: high risk settings mean long losing runs are normal.
- Decide your cash out target in advance: in crash games and Mines, set a target multiplier before you start.
- Take breaks: fast games make it easy to lose track of time. Use reality checks and time reminders.
- Do not chase losses: raising your stake after a loss does not change the odds.

In a crash game, a multiplier rises from 1x until it crashes at a random moment. You win if you cash out before the crash.
No strategy changes the odds in Mines. You can choose how many mines to play with and when to cash out, which changes the risk per round, but every tile is random.
