A Lucky 15 is a full cover bet with four selections in different events. It is made up of 15 separate bets of equal stake:

Part of the betNumber of betsWhat needs to win
Singles4Any one selection
Doubles6Any two selections
Trebles4Any three selections
Four-fold accumulator1All four selections
Total15

A £1 Lucky 15 therefore costs £15. A £1 each way Lucky 15 costs £30, because every one of the 15 bets has a win part and a place part.

The Lucky 15 is a Yankee with four singles added. A Yankee has the same doubles, trebles and four-fold, but no singles, so you need at least two winners to get any return.

How to use the Lucky 15 calculator

  • The calculator opens on Lucky 15 with four selections already added.
  • Enter your stake per bet. For a £15 bet, enter £1.
  • Choose each way if you want the place part too, and set the place terms.
  • Enter the odds for each selection and mark each one as won, placed, lost or void.

The calculator works out all 15 bets, adds up the winning ones and shows the total return and profit. Try changing one result from won to lost to see how much each selection contributes.

Lucky 15 example

You place a £1 Lucky 15 (£15 total) on four horses at 5/2, 2/1, 6/4 and 3/1. All four win.

  • Singles: the four singles return £3.50 + £3 + £2.50 + £4 = £13.
  • Doubles, trebles and the four-fold: these multiply the odds together, and the four-fold alone returns £105.
  • Total return: £314, a profit of £299.

Now suppose only two horses win, the 5/2 and the 3/1 shots. You collect on two singles (£7.50) and one double (£14), so £21.50 back from £15. One winner at 3/1 returns just £4, which is a loss of £11. That shows the strength of the Lucky 15: you get something back from one winner, but you need two or more winners at decent prices to make a profit.

Lucky 15 bonuses and consolation odds

Many UK bookmakers add extras to the Lucky 15 to make it more attractive. Common offers include:

  • Consolation odds: if only one selection wins, that single is paid at double or even triple the odds.
  • All-winner bonus: if all four selections win, you get a bonus of around 10% to 25% on your returns.
  • Each way bonuses: some bookmakers pay a bonus if all four selections are placed.

These offers vary between bookmakers and are often limited to horse racing. They are not included in our calculator, so the real return can be higher. Always check the terms of the offer before you bet.

Is a Lucky 15 a good bet?

The Lucky 15 has clear strengths and weaknesses.

Advantages

  • One winner gives you a return.
  • A lot of excitement for a small stake per bet.
  • Big potential if three or four selections win.
  • Bookmaker bonuses add value.

Disadvantages

  • The total stake is 15 times your unit stake.
  • One winner at short odds usually means a loss.
  • Bookmaker margin applies to every bet in the bundle.

A Lucky 15 works best with selections at decent prices, roughly 2/1 and bigger. With four odds-on favourites, the returns are so small that the bet rarely makes a profit.

Lucky 15 each way

An each way Lucky 15 is 30 bets: 15 win bets and 15 place bets. The place bets use the place odds of each selection, for example 1/5 of the win odds. This makes it a popular bet on big racing days, where finishing in the places is realistic even for outsiders. Read more about place terms in our each way calculator.

Bigger full cover bets

If you like the Lucky 15, there are bigger versions with more selections:

  • Lucky 31: five selections, 31 bets (5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds and 1 five-fold).
  • Lucky 63: six selections, 63 bets, including a six-fold.

All of these are available in our bet calculator. More selections means more combinations, but also a much larger total stake.

Tips for choosing Lucky 15 selections

A Lucky 15 rewards a bit of planning. These simple principles help you get more from the bet:

  • Mix the prices. Four short-priced favourites rarely make a profit, while four big outsiders rarely land together. A blend of one or two shorter prices with one or two bigger prices gives you a realistic chance of multiple winners with decent returns.
  • Pick separate races. Every selection must be in a different event. Most punters pick four races from one meeting or one day, which keeps the bet easy to follow.
  • Avoid weak links. Every selection appears in seven of the 15 bets. Do not add a horse just to make up the numbers.
  • Take early prices with care. Best Odds Guaranteed protects you if the starting price drifts out, so taking a price in the morning has little downside at a BOG bookmaker.
  • Think about each way. In big handicap fields, each way doubles the cost but gives a second route to a return.

Above all, decide your total budget first and work back to the unit stake. A £2 Lucky 15 costs £30, and £60 each way.

Lucky 15 on football

Although the Lucky 15 is mostly linked to horse racing, you can also use it for football. Pick four match results in different games, for example four home wins on a Saturday. Football odds are often shorter than racing odds, so look for selections around evens or bigger. Bookmaker bonuses for one winner are less common on football, so check whether the offer applies before you bet.

Where to place your Lucky 15

The value of a Lucky 15 depends a lot on where you place it: odds, Best Odds Guaranteed and Lucky 15 bonuses make a real difference. These are our top three picks:

Key points to remember

  • A Lucky 15 is 15 bets on four selections: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a four-fold.
  • One winner gives a return, but you usually need two or more winners for a profit.
  • A £1 Lucky 15 costs £15, or £30 each way.
  • Bookmaker bonuses such as consolation odds can add real value, so compare offers.
  • Mix your prices and set your total budget before choosing the unit stake.
How many bets are in a Lucky 15?

A Lucky 15 has 15 bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 four-fold accumulator. A £1 Lucky 15 costs £15.

How many winners do you need on a Lucky 15?

One winner gives you a return. To make a profit you usually need two or more winners, unless your single winner is at big odds or the bookmaker pays consolation odds.

What is the difference between a Lucky 15 and a Yankee?

A Yankee has the same 11 doubles, trebles and four-fold but no singles. A Lucky 15 adds four singles, so one winner already returns something.

How much does a £1 each way Lucky 15 cost?

£30. Each of the 15 bets has a win part and a place part, so there are 30 bets of £1.

Does the calculator include Lucky 15 bonuses?

No. Consolation odds and all-winner bonuses vary by bookmaker, so the calculator shows the standard return. Your actual return may be higher.
