In 90-ball bingo, numbers from 1 to 90 are drawn at random. You mark off any numbers on your tickets that match the numbers called. Online, the software marks them for you automatically, a feature known as auto-daub.
Each game has three prize stages:
- One line: the first player to mark off all five numbers on any one horizontal line.
- Two lines: the first player to complete two lines on the same ticket.
- Full house: the first player to mark off all 15 numbers on a ticket. This is the biggest prize.
The game continues after each prize until the full house has been won.
The 90-ball bingo ticket
A 90-ball ticket is a grid of three rows and nine columns. Each row has five numbers and four blank spaces, so every ticket has 15 numbers in total.
| Column | Numbers |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 to 9 |
| 2 | 10 to 19 |
| 3 | 20 to 29 |
| 4 | 30 to 39 |
| 5 | 40 to 49 |
| 6 | 50 to 59 |
| 7 | 60 to 69 |
| 8 | 70 to 79 |
| 9 | 80 to 90 |
Strips of six
Tickets are often sold in strips of six. A full strip contains every number from 1 to 90 exactly once. That means every number called will appear on one of your six tickets, so you mark something every call. Buying a full strip increases your chances, but also multiplies your cost by six.
How much does 90-ball bingo cost?
Online ticket prices vary from free games to £1 or more per ticket. Many rooms charge between 1p and 10p per ticket, which makes 90-ball bingo one of the cheapest forms of online gambling. Rooms often limit the number of tickets you can buy per game, for example to 96 or 144.
| Ticket price | Cost of a strip of 6 | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 1p to 5p | 6p to 30p | Long sessions on a small budget |
| 10p to 25p | 60p to £1.50 | Most regular rooms |
| 50p to £1 | £3 to £6 | Special games with bigger prizes |
Bingo is ideal for players with a small budget. See our guides to £5 deposit casinos and £1 deposit casinos.
Prizes and jackpots
Prizes in 90-ball bingo can be fixed or based on ticket sales:
- Fixed prizes: the room shows the prize before the game starts, for example £5 for one line, £10 for two lines and £25 for a full house.
- Progressive prizes: the prize pot grows with the number of tickets sold.
- Full house jackpots: some rooms offer an extra jackpot if the full house is won within a set number of calls, such as 40 calls.
If two or more players claim a prize on the same number, the prize is shared equally.
Classic bingo calls
Part of the charm of 90-ball bingo is the traditional calls. Online games often show them on screen or have a caller read them out. Some favourites:
| Number | Call |
|---|---|
| 1 | Kelly’s eye |
| 2 | One little duck |
| 11 | Legs eleven |
| 22 | Two little ducks |
| 45 | Halfway there |
| 88 | Two fat ladies |
| 90 | Top of the shop |
Playing 90-ball bingo online vs in a bingo hall
Online 90-ball bingo follows the same rules as the game in a hall, but there are some differences. Online, numbers are marked automatically, so you can play many more tickets at once. Games start every few minutes, all day and night, and there is no need to travel. The hall offers something online cannot fully replace: the atmosphere, the caller and a night out with friends. Many players enjoy both, using online bingo between visits to their local club. The chat rooms on bingo sites try to recreate some of that social feel, with hosts running chat games and congratulating winners.
Tips for 90-ball bingo
- Pick quieter rooms. Fewer players means a better chance of winning, although prizes may be smaller.
- Look at the prize-to-price ratio. Compare the prizes with the ticket price and number of players.
- Set a budget per session. Bingo games are quick and it is easy to keep buying tickets.
- Use pre-buy. Many sites let you buy tickets for later games, so you can plan your spending.
- Join the chat. The community is a big part of online bingo, and chat games often offer extra prizes.
90-ball vs 75-ball and 80-ball bingo
| Version | Ticket | Ways to win | Where it is popular |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90-ball | 3 x 9 grid, 15 numbers | One line, two lines, full house | UK and Ireland |
| 75-ball | 5 x 5 grid with free centre | Patterns and full card | USA, also online in the UK |
| 80-ball | 4 x 4 grid | Lines, corners, full card | Online only |

90-ball bingo across the UK and Ireland
90-ball bingo is played the same way in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and it is also the standard game in Irish bingo halls. Online rooms licensed by the UK Gambling Commission are open to players across Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and many run themed sessions around big dates such as bank holidays and Christmas. Wherever you play, the ticket layout, the three prize stages and the classic calls stay the same.
Is online 90-ball bingo fair?
Yes, at sites licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Numbers are drawn by a tested random number generator, and the rules of each room must be clear before you buy tickets. Bingo is a game of pure chance: no strategy can change which numbers are called.
