Sugar Rush is one of the most popular Pragmatic Play slots in the UK. Behind the bright candy design sits a clever mechanic: every winning cluster leaves a mark on the grid, and spots that win again turn into multipliers that keep doubling, up to 128x. Released in 2022, it has become a firm favourite for players who like tumbling cluster slots with real win potential. In this Sugar Rush slot review we explain how the game works, how the multiplier spots build up and what you can win.

Theme and Design
Sugar Rush is set in a pastel candy land, with gummy bears, jelly beans, lollipops and sweets filling a large 7×7 grid. The bright colours and cheerful soundtrack make it a light-hearted game, but the maths underneath is serious: this is a high volatility slot where most of the action comes from building multipliers. The design works well on mobile, with clear symbols even on a small screen.
How to Play Sugar Rush
Sugar Rush uses cluster pays instead of paylines. You win when five or more matching symbols touch each other horizontally or vertically. Bigger clusters pay more, and the biggest payouts come from clusters of 15 or more of the top symbols.
After each win, the Tumble feature removes the winning symbols and new ones drop in from above. This can create new clusters, and the tumbles continue until no new wins form. A single spin can therefore produce a chain of wins.
The Multiplier Spots
The multiplier spots are what make Sugar Rush special:
- When a winning symbol explodes, its position on the grid is marked.
- If another winning symbol explodes on a marked spot, that spot becomes a multiplier, starting at 2x.
- Each further win on the same spot doubles the multiplier: 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x and up to 128x.
- If a cluster covers several multiplier spots, the multipliers are added together and applied to that win.
In the base game, the marked spots and multipliers reset after each paid spin. That changes in the free spins.
Free Spins
Three or more candy machine scatter symbols trigger the free spins. The more scatters you land, the more spins you get:
| Scatters | Free spins |
|---|---|
| 3 | 10 |
| 4 | 12 |
| 5 | 15 |
| 6 | 20 |
| 7 | 30 |
The key difference is that marked spots and multipliers stay on the grid for the whole free spins round. Multipliers can keep building spin after spin, which is how the biggest wins in Sugar Rush happen. Landing more scatters during the feature awards extra spins.
How a Big Win Builds Up
A typical big win in Sugar Rush does not come from one spin but from a free spins round where multiplier spots keep growing. Early in the feature, small clusters mark spots across the grid. As more wins land on the same area, those spots turn into 2x, 4x and 8x multipliers. Because the spots stay in place for the whole round, a later cluster that covers several of them can collect a combined multiplier of dozens or even hundreds of times. That is also why the feature can feel quiet at first: the value is in the multipliers you build, not in the first few spins. Free spins rounds where the multipliers stay scattered and small are common, so keep your expectations realistic.
RTP, Volatility and Maximum Win
Sugar Rush has a default RTP of 96.50%. Pragmatic Play also offers lower versions to casinos, at 95.50% and 94.50%, so it is worth checking the game information at your casino. The volatility is high: there can be long spells without much happening, followed by big wins when multipliers line up. The maximum win is 5,000x your stake.
Sugar Rush vs Sugar Rush 1000
Pragmatic Play later released Sugar Rush 1000, a version with higher multiplier potential: spots can reach 1,024x and the maximum win is much higher. The 1000 version is even more volatile. If you are new to the game, the original Sugar Rush is the better place to start, as its swings are a little less extreme.
Playing Sugar Rush in the UK
UK players can find Sugar Rush at most casinos that offer Pragmatic Play slots. A few things are different for UK players:
- No bonus buy: buying the free spins directly is not allowed in the UK, so you need to trigger them naturally.
- Stake limits: slot stakes are capped at £5 per spin for most players and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24.
- No autoplay: autoplay is not allowed on UK slots, and every spin takes at least 2.5 seconds.
These rules make sessions slower, which can help you keep track of your spending.
Sugar Rush on Mobile
Sugar Rush runs smoothly on phones and tablets. The 7×7 grid is large, but the symbols are clear and the tumbles are easy to follow on a smaller screen. You can play in your mobile browser or in your casino’s app without downloading the game separately.
Who Is Sugar Rush For?
Sugar Rush suits players who enjoy cluster slots and do not mind high volatility. The multiplier spots add a strategic feel to watching the grid, even though every result is random. If you prefer steady small wins, a lower volatility slot such as Fishin’ Frenzy may suit you better. Fans of tumbling multiplier slots should also look at Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus.
Tips for Playing Sugar Rush
- Set a budget first. High volatility means your balance can drop quickly before a feature lands.
- Use a modest stake. A lower stake gives you more spins and more chances to trigger free spins.
- Check the RTP. Look for the 96.50% version where possible.
- Try the demo. Get a feel for how the multiplier spots build up before you play for real money.
- Do not chase the feature. Free spins can take a long time to land. Stop when your budget is used.
